Cancer Supporters

Paradise City Dragon Boat is a team of Cancer Survivors and Supporters from all walks of life, paddling together to unleash fierce joy on the water, and coming together to live life to the fullest. Each member of our team brings something special and unique, and benefits from participating in this team and sport in unique ways. When we come together, both in the boat and as a team overall, we can accomplish anything.

“I joined this team because I thought it would be a wonderful way to get back on the river. It was a big part of my life with my husband before I lost him to cancer. Instantly I realized that this team stood for so much more than I could ever have dreamed of. To be able to be a supporter to my new dear friends as they go through treatment and to all of us who have been touched by cancer is an honor. I am proud to be part of this community and continually humbled by what we do for each other..”

“I joined the team to connect and to support a friend who was on the team to experience athleticism amongst surviving women and men; to be on the beautiful river; to exercise; to be a part of a team that not only paddles together but has a connection much more powerful than that; to paddle for my ancestors (3 aunts who were survivors) and my mother who is surviving breast and bladder cancer; to be spiritual with nature and my body; to feel the adrenalin of competition; to embrace friends...”

“Signing up as a Supporter, I didn’t know how I would fit in with a team of cancer survivors or what (if anything) was expected of me. What I’ve learned since is that Paradise City Dragon Boat is a focused team, building strength and supporting each other while having fun on the water and off. As a newcomer, I can look up to teammates who maintain good spirit and well-being at any age. And as a Supporter of others who are cancer survivors, I learn about resilience and true strength.”
